Brothers and Sisters,

Fr. Al entered the glory of the Father at noon today.  He held on much longer than anyone expected but as his daughter-in-law said, "of course he held on until Sunday!  It's his favorite day of the week!"  Perhaps he waited until church was over at Grace and then just keep on worshiping as he walked the final few paces into the Father's arms.

The memorial service will be Saturday the 19th at 11am at Grace Ocala.  You are welcome to come and celebrate a man who was planted in the "good soil" of God spoken of in today's lectionary.  We expect the funeral to be a standing room only.

Alfred Lee Durrance was born and reared in Florida. He got his education in the public school system, attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute at Auburn, AL to get his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1949. He served for a year of active duty in the USNR at the close of World War II and two years in Chemical Corps research during the Korean conflict. After three years of working in the agricultural field in Florida, Al attended the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest and received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1958. He was ordained June 30, 1958, and served in parish work for over thirty years. He retired from parish work in 1988 and was elected North American Warden of the Order of St. Luke the Physician in 1989 where he served for five years.

At the end of his term, he and his wife, Julia moved back to Ocala, Florida.  Al travelled extensively in Canada and USA doing renewal and healing missions.  In addition to his work with the Order of St. Luke, he was also a speaker at Camps Farthest Out, and a Faculty Member of The Agnes Sandford School of Pastoral Care .  Fr Al authored two books: "Good Lord Deliver Us" a book on spiritual warfare, including the ministry of deliverance; and "Commissioned to Heal."

Fr Al was beloved by all who knew him, and was much in demand as a speaker at healing events and greatly respected for his pioneering work in  Inner Healing.  He published a large number of documents on Christian healing, some of which are available as tracts through the OSL office. Several of these documents are posted online and can be read at http://www.durrance.com
